The great shape debate

Pear, Princess, Round, Square; which one is right for her, what will look amazing on you?

The great shape debate can occur between friends, family and even partners, but the reality is, if it’s on your finger you are the one that has to be in love with it.

Why? Well, because diamonds are a reminder that beautiful things can come out of challenging situations! Nique is here to assist you in adding fuel to your side of the debate. This may however make you say yes to another shape.

Diamonds are effectively carbon, otherwise known as coal, which forms into a beautiful stone under pressure! Over time, under this incredible pressure, the diamond becomes one of the strongest, most beautiful gems!

Timeless style

The diamond continues to be the most popular gemstone of all time. Possibly because it’s associated with romance, marriage and wedding anniversaries. All of us deep down, love the idea of love. But the truth is diamonds are personal, stunning, and provide light, colour and connection, so they need to be cut wisely, and chosen carefully. While most people tend to focus on carats (the size of the stone) and clarity and colour, the fact is that it is the cut that mostly affects sparkle and personality, because the perfect diamond cut will bring out the stone’s beauty, light and brilliance.

What is the best shape for a diamond?

All diamonds used by Manly Jewellers Nique Jewellery are simply stunning in their own right, they look amazing cut into any shape. All are locally sourced, ethical Diamonds from Australian diamond mines. The shape that is perfect for your individual Nique Jewellery piece is a personal choice. It will also be influenced by the way our jewellers have worked with you to design your handmade item, and how the Nique Jeweller will set the diamond into your jewellery in our Sydney jewellery workshop.

Round Brilliant Cut

A round diamond cut brings and exceptional brilliance and a classic, ageless look to your engagement ring. This round cut has the most amount of facets so will throw back all the colours of the rainbow for all to see. Round brilliant diamonds are Nique Jewellery’s most popular engagement ring centre stone, and it is a cut that certainly brings out the dazzling beauty of the stone. The precision and detail required in a round diamond’s facets that gives it such brilliance, is why it is the feature of our Cynn and Lucid collections.

Oval

This is a gorgeous alternative to the standard round, allowing you to stand out from the crowd! A round diamond gives you the biggest bang for your buck, compare an oval to the same carat size of another shape and you won’t change your mind. Nique Jewellery round diamonds not only have an elongated nature give your more size, they also give you the sparkle and fire that the round diamonds are known for.

A Nique Jewellery Oval Diamond makes a beautiful pendant, and when a diamond is set into a ring, it can make the wearer’s fingers look thinner, longer, and more shapely, making it a stunning centre stone in a bespoke ring.

Square (Princess Cut)

Everything old is new again. Vintage style jewellery has certainly been enjoying a renaissance over the past few years, and as such the Square Cut has been surged in popularity. Square Cut diamonds are more commonly called ‘Princess Cut’ diamonds and are incredibly versatile. A Nique Jewellery Princess Cut Diamond has distinctly greater brilliance and fire in the diamond allowing for a wide variety of choices in the band style and setting type.

Cushion

Cant decide between round cut and a princess then this is the best of both worlds. It is known to show a lot of fire from the bend in the facets.

Marquise

A Marquise diamond shape naturally slims the finger and gives proportion to a ring. Its name is derived from Marquise of Pompadour, for whom King Louis XIV of France allegedly had a stone fashioned to resemble what he considered her perfectly shaped lips for kissing!

The Marquise can be cut thin, or more rounded, depending on preference, although like the round cut, it requires a stone cutter with experience to ensure that the end points align perfectly. It is therefore important to pick a symmetrical stone that draws your eye to the centre. Because Marquise diamonds are long and narrow, they can also create the illusion or perception of being bigger, so selecting the right Nique Jewellery Marquise Diamond for your finger shape will reward you with a larger stone then its carat weight would suggest, while making the wearer’s fingers look exceptionally flattering.

Pear

A Pear Diamond is an exquisite choice showing creativity to back away from the more traditional style cuts. The Pear Diamond offers the combination of the Round Brilliant cut and the marquise, and creates a slimming shape that looks fabulous as a pendant or earrings. It is definitely a stone you need to view under to make sure there is no bowtie shadows though the middle, a well cut balanced pear will radiate in the sunshine. It’s a favourite for Nique Jewellery Bespoke pear rings.

Baguette

The Baguette is similar to the oval shape, but longer, and more rectangular. It’s a classic Art Deco style that has also regained popularity in recent years and features 14 facets. While they are stunning as a single stone, Baguette diamonds are more commonly used as accent stones because they are a great shape for getting into the band, to add a little more bling!

Baguette diamonds are also very commonly chosen in wedding bands and as eternity rings.

Emerald

An Emerald cut diamond has a large table surface and therefore offers abundant reflections through its long faceted straight lines. The Emerald shape is cut into many facets, which provide a brilliant sparkle.

Radiant

Has so many facets on the pavilion and the crown, this is where its name comes from the high levels of both brilliance and fire. Sparkle central is what I have told clients in the past.
