Platinum - a yes or a no?

Platinum is a dense and rare metal with a silver appearance. It is harder and heavier then gold making it great durable metal for everyday jewellery, securing diamonds and a metal for engagement and wedding bands.

Platinum is very resistant to tarnishing therefore is much more cost effective then white gold from a maintenance point of view. No rhodium plating is needed but it is highly recommended to still have a clean and polish yearly to check over the wear of your stones.

When using platinum to handmake, repair and restore a piece of jewellery it is important to know that because of the hardness and practicality of the metal for long lasting wear it does take a longer amount of time for the jewellery to complete the task therefore the labour involved in working with platinum is longer .

Many clients ask which is better white gold or platinum, my advice is never general, yet specific to the design the wear and if the piece will ever be worn with another ring.
