Amazing Amethysts

The most beloved purple stone in the world is amethyst. For more than 2000 years, quartz of the purple colour has been used as jewellery for people. The birthstone for February is amethyst, a significant stone in the New Age culture. For use in jewellery and accessories, it is used to create tumbled stones, beads, cabochons, faceted stones, and a variety of other products.

Amethyst does not break with cleavage as it has a Mohs hardness of 7. Due to this, it is strong enough to be used in bracelets, earrings, pendants, rings, and many other types of jewellery.

Due to its magnificent purple colour, amethyst is an extremely popular gem. Like the word "turquoise," "amethyst" is now used to describe both a colour and a type of stone. Whilst the word "amethyst" makes a lot of people think of a deep purple stone, amethyst occurs in many purple colours. The purple colour of the stone can be so light that it is barely perceptible or so dark that it is nearly opaque. It can be a mix between red and purple, purple, or a violet like purple. These stones exist in a range of colour, meaning you could find the perfect colour for you in an amethyst.

Amethyst can be majorly sourced from Brazil as geodes within volcanic rocks, Uruguay, South Korea, Russia, United States, South India, and Zambia. Zambia is one of the largest global amethyst producers’ of 1000 tonnes annually. The other place that Nique Jewellery is very lucky to have amethysts sourced from is right here in Australia. Amethyst is found around Broken Hill, New South Wales. Nique Jewellery is proud to call New South Wales its home State, especially when stunning amethysts can be found around the state. Our Head Jeweller Danica is lucky to have a deposit as she sources most amethysts from Broken hill. She also sources some of these stones from South Korea as it has a large selection of these stones. Danica hand picks these stones to make the most stunning jewellery out of this beloved gem.
